Which ever side you fall into on the American Civil War, European Nations were smart enough to not send troops into the middle of it. The Destiny of America had to be determined whether through intellect or brute force by Americans.

A case could be argued that it was Lincoln playing to the politics of Northern Immigrants who hated the South and its friendship with the Rich Aritocratic Europeans (who these immigrants also hated) that created the one of the greatest tragedies in American History where 700,000 Americans died.

Would the American Civil War have happened if not for the massive invasion of European Immigrants into the Northern States? Probably not.

Would we still have slavery if we had not had the civil war? No. The old type of slavery was on its way out, to be replaced by the new type of slavery, debt, that the majority of the world still lives under.
