Circuit City to close 567 remaining US stores

This is sad.

Circuit City became the largest retailer to fall victim to the expanding financial crisis Friday, announcing it will shut down its remaining 567 U.S. stores at the cost of 34,000 more jobs after failing to sell the business. (I thought I saw a lot larger number for the number of job losses so not sure about that number.) Regardless.......

It is sad.

I think about all the retailers I've seen vanish in my life time. I loved Zayres. I lived for their sales. Treasure Island. That was J.C. Penney's experiment and I guess it was the first super store concept. Growing up, I lived next to a Treasure Island for a period when they first opened up. Can't tell you how many Playboy and Penthouse magazines I bought there. Woolco. I loved that store. The one in our area was like my own private store because no one else was cool enough to shop there I say with a sly grin. It was a damned good store. I don't know why it didn't attract shoppers. W.T Grant. Eh. I liked it okay. Richway. It was okay. I bought some nice stuff there. And you know I like stuff. :-) Lionel Leisure City. Never totally got into shopping at the toy store but did a lot of Christmas shopping there and hated it when Toys R Us took market share. Which I totally didn't get because LL generally had the better prices. In that case I guess it was a matter of Location, Location, Location and ad budgets. TRU just caught a lot of the smaller toy stores off guard when it hit the scene. And God I loved it when 84 Lumber and Home Depot were at war for market share. I didn't have a truck back then. I had a little Sky Hawke which had a big boot. I would load my car up with lumber. It took a lot of trips but I was building the room and porch myself so I didn't need a whole lot at one time.

And with all those stores. I never really liked K-mart. I don't know why. I just didn't. And the first time I saw a Wal-mart I was like, with the people I was with, "What the hell is this. And what the fuck do you mean they don't have sales." I like sales. Without sales what the fuck is a Sunday's Paper good for."

Anyways......................

Let me say it again.

Sad!!!
