Contrary to Tourist Info - Bigger Problems in Gulf than just Tarballs

No one wants to chase tourist from the beaches on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It is hurting the South. But contrary to tourist propaganda no one knows for sure how safe or unsafe the area is. There is more than just crude being dumped into the ocean. There is natural gas and there is methane and there is dying sea life and there is God knows what else. When workers tell media they are getting sick and the media tries to tell the public it is food poisoning, they don't know.

I don't mean this to sound like an hysterical piece to scare people away, but don't live carelessly today for a week of fun only to then have your child come down with some unexplained illness in the future. It is probably safe on the dry land but if you are planning your vacation for beach fun in the Gulf, then my advice is don't.
