Chapter Three

The Bingo family settled into their new Apartment at the Minion Plex
uneventfully and settled into a normal daily routine. Billy started taking
classes at The Community College but without really knowing whether he
was leaning toward a technical degree or whether he wanted to go on to
a four year college. He made little effort to make new friends.

Ralph Shath did his best to stay out of sight and unnoticed to Maureen
Bingo. She would notice him over at the pool and around the Complex but
as the family settled in there was no contact between the two. In an effort

This evening, Frank and Billy are shooting pool at a new Pool Hall, Glory
Green, that has opened. Billy attracts the attention of Steve Webster
who is in one of Billy’s classes. Steve Webster has conservative
cut brown hair and brown eyes. His complexion is dark though the tan line
from his watch reveals his complexion is from the time he spends in the
sun. He stands around 6 foot 6 inches tall with a muscular build. Steve
walks with confidence over to Billy and Billy’s father Frank. At
times Steve’s mannerisms have a feminine quality.

“This place is something else, isn’t it. I wonder how long
it will take Dirk Jenkins to break even on it.” Steve looks Billy
up and down as he talks. “I hear Dirk’s girlfriend is going

As Frank prepares for a scratch shot, Frank looks at Steve. “Who
is Dirk Jenkins?”

Billy laughs. “Good looking dude then.”

Steve rolls his eyes and bashfully grins. “Yeah.”

Frank successfully makes his shot and pats his son on the back. “Beat
you again. Let’s go over and get a booth.” Steve starts to walk
over to the bar but Billy motions for him to join him and his father.
Steve and Billy sit down on one side of the booth and Frank sits down
across from them. Frank motions for a waitress. “What do you fellows
want to eat?”

Steve says, “I think I’ll order a steak and a potato, But I’ll
pay. Matter of fact I’ll pay for it all.”

“Thanks but...” Frank isn’t sure what to say to Steve.

“Don’t mention it.”

“I think I’ll have the same. Billy, you want a steak and potato
also.”

“Yeah.”

When the waitress walks up Steve places the order. After she walks away
Steve laughs. “I dated her once. She hates me. I have no idea what
I did to her.”

Billy hits Steve in the arm. “Dude. You didn’t call her back.
She told me all about it when we were waiting for the teacher. Thirty
minutes she told me all about it. And I don’t even know the girl.”

Steve grins. “Then you know why I didn’t call her back.”

Frank smiles. “So Steve, what is that you do to be able to treat
us to this meal.”

“My mom decorates homes. I help her.”

“Oh.”

Billy glares at his father. Then he looks at the waitress shooting mental
bullets their direction. Billy laughs.

“What is funny?” Frank hates it when Billy starts laughing
for no apparent reason. Frank looks to see what Billy is looking at and
then sees the waitress watching Steve and appearing to get angrier by
the second.

“Steve.”

“Yes, Mr. Bingo.”

“Please go talk to our waitress so that she does not decide to poison
us.”

Steve moans. “Oh God.” Then Steve scoots closer to Billy and
puts his arm across Billy’s shoulder. He pulls Billy closer. “I
am going to kiss you on the cheek.”

Billy chuckles as he sees his father blushing a bright red. “Hey.
I will expect you to call me back. Roses at my door in the morning will
also be ...” Billy ends the sentence in a high pitched song, “Lovely.”
Then Billy sees the waitress look away from them as she gets back to work.
“Yeah, I don’t think a kiss will be necessary. She seems to
have bought it.”

Frank puzzles as he looks at his son with Steve. Steve pulls his arm
off Billy’s shoulder and slides back over. He hopes he hasn’t
made Frank angry.

“We have just made my father even more confused. He can’t decide
whether I am straight or gay.”

Steve smiles. “Try being a decorator. Even I can’t decide.”

Frank clears his throat. “One of the mechanics I work with has a
boyfriend.”

Steve raises his voice. “Really?”

Frank laughs. “Yeah, she has dated him for over a year.”

“Oooh.” Steve laughs. “She. Yeah. I am going to tease
my mother with that one.” Steve changes the subject. “So how
do you like living at the Minion Plex?”

The waitress delivers the steaks along with a bottle of whiskey and three
glasses. She looks at Steve. “You could have told me.” She then
storms off.

Steve shrugs. He mocks. “I could have told her. I really could have
told her. I should have told her.” Steve cuts into his steak. “Billy,
you should have called her a slut for having sex with me and trying to
turn me straight.”

“What? Oh God.” Billy cuts into his steak. “Living at
he Minion is okay. It is a really cool Apartment. The pool is great.”

“Do you know Bobby White? He lives somewhere in the Plex. He is
funny.” Steve starts to say more but then looks at Frank. Steve repeats.
“Bobby is funny.” He adds, “He is a great guy.”

“I met him the day we were moving. He helped us move in. I don’t
see him too much. To be honest I am something of hermit.”

Looking down at his plate, Steve picks at his steak, taking a bite so
often, while talking. “You should try to get to know Lilly Coint
and Beth Jackson at the Minion. They are hot. I dated their former roommate
Jane Wilifar for a bit. She got a job in New York. Somehow we went from
dating to her telling me about her dates in New York. That kind of sucks.
Sometimes it is amusing, a scream, sometimes. She told me about one guy
who threw up after performing cunnilingis on her. God, I miss Jane.”
Steve suddenly looks up and sees Frank staring at him. “I am sorry.
That is probably not something you want to hear. Me rambling about a girl.”

Frank smiles. “That is cool. I understand missing the woman you
love but I’ve got to be getting home before the woman I love decides
to make me sleep on the couch.” Frank stands up from the booth.

Billy stands up. “Say Steve, you want to shoot some pool.”

“Sure.”

Frank looks at Billy. “You wake your mom up late, she is not going
to like it.”

“He can sleep over at my place. I live at the Commons that is walking
distance from here.”

Frank wants to scream no. He can imagine Steve shoving his cock in and
out of his son’s butt. He reminds himself that his son is grown.
“Okay. Billy, see you tomorrow sometime.”

“Bye.”

“Bye Mr. Bingo.”

“Bye.”

Frank exits and makes his way to his truck. He gets in his truck and
sits for a second. Then he calls his wife on the cellphone. “Honey,
Maureen, Billy is going to stay and shoot some pool with a friend.”
He pauses a second but before his wife Maureen can say anything Frank
continues talking. “I messed up. I was trying to get Billy to come
on home and instead his friend invited him to spend the night with him.
His friend was talking about a former girlfriend but honey, I am sure
he swings both ways. You know. Bisexual. I wish I hadn’t left Billy
with him.”

Maureen listens patiently to her husband. “Does the friend seem,
I don’t know, what do you think about the friend?” Before Frank
can start to answer Maureen interrupts. “Is there anyway you can
gracefully change your mind about coming home and go back and just stay
at the Pool Hall with Billy so you will be there to give Billy a ride
back home?”

“You keep talking about wanting Billy to come out of his shell.”

“I know.”

“We’ve said that we are okay if it turns out Billy is gay.
If I go back in there, that means I am not okay with it. I am going to
come on home.”

“Okay. Come on home. You are right. Billy is grown. He will be okay.”
Maureen closes her phone. She remembers how she was blackmailed. She tells
herself, “I will not make Billy feel ashamed. When he comes home
tomorrow I will talk to him the same as if he has been with a woman. It
will not be odd.”
