AJC Propaganda - Rethinking government
This Is Opinion. If you disagree, that is cool.
A lot of bad in Georgia can be traced to policies promoted by Cox Inc. which controls the major Atlanta Newspaper (Atlanta Journal Constitution,) controls WSB Radio among other radio stations, and controls WSB TV. I grew up reading the Atlanta Journal Constitution and very often cussing the Atlanta Journal Constitution. When I read the propaganda that comes from the Corporation, regardless of the name that may be on editorial or article, I pretty much know it is their standard propaganda.
Article / Editorial: Rethinking government: Be willing to make waves
When you read this, the first you need to realize is that this isn't rethinking anything, this is the standard propaganda that Cox Inc. has been promoting for the last 40 years in various forms and through various writers.
Cox Inc. thinks big is better even though no study has ever validated that concept. So every chance they get they write how Georgia counties should merge. There is no savings when this happens because you still need people to handle the task of serving the same number of people. Either government has to increase the hiring of unelected people to serve the people of the county or the government simply does not function at the same level as it did with more counties.
Cox Inc. hates elected people actually serving the people they were elected to serve. They want elected officials to have much less power than even a figure head. They want to be able to bring in Mafia people from out of the state to take over the business of government. Cox Inc. came to Georgia as a bunch of carpetbaggers and that is still pretty much the mindset of the company. I mean, to Cox Inc., the way our current USA Congress operates is a wet dream. Have a bunch of lobbyist write a 1,000 plus page healthcare law and then have Congress vote on it without having the first clue on what they are voting on. That is the way Cox Inc. has always wanted the state of Georgia run from the most local town to the top levels of state government.
____
From Editorial:
Gov. Sonny Perdue helped launch the debate with his recent proposal to convert some statewide elected offices to positions appointed by a governor. That’s a small start, but much more is needed if the state’s politicians are to truly achieve their goal of overhauling governance.
____
Of course they don't explain in the editorial on exactly how replacing elected officials with Mafia people appointed by the Governor from out of the state will actually do anything other than increase taxation without representation in the state. That is classic Cox Inc. Propaganda.
___
From Editorial:
Let’s consider education, which consumes about 57 percent of spending in the amended 2010 budget.
With 180 school districts in Georgia, it’s natural to ponder whether reducing that number would lead to leaner, smarter government.
Studies indicate that economies expected from such mergers can be frustratingly elusive. But combining districts warrants consideration if significant savings seem likely. Call it where local control meets fiscal reality.
___
The person who wrote this managed to stick in that no study shows combining districts saves money but still the writer has to do Cox Inc. Propaganda 101 and still support the foolishness they've been pushing for the last 40 years. Regardless of the Cox propaganda, if you want better, more efficient schools, most thinking people believe that you put the schools back in the neighborhoods and back under the control of parents and teachers and double down back toward the one room school house concept where eveyone knows everyone. Although I can't name studies that show this, the fact that smaller schools out west perform better in helping their students achieve life success and kids who were home schooled at least in part of their education find more success later in life seems to point to this. Life success is the true measure of whether education is a success or a failure. Standardized test, which Cox Inc. has always loved, don't really mean anything. Even kids who seem to succeed in large schools may actually have their success as a result of being helped and taught at home in conjunction with the school.
____
Regarding Cox Inc. push for Regional Governments....
Regional Governments / Commissions just add a greater level of corruption and incompetence and make it more difficult for voters to kick the various sorry asses out of office. But of course Cox Inc. has always loved the concept.
____
Again this is just opinion. If you have a different opinion, that is cool. On some days I don't even agree with myself.
