Bing to Use Wolfram Alpha Results
Bing to Use Wolfram Alpha Results
The Article presents this as good news. And I guess in a way it is. Users can type in complicated math equations or even ask Bing to display a graph plotting an equation and get results.
People can ask which fruit, an orange or a kiwi, has more vitamins. Searching for a food item on Bing will return a nutrition facts label, much like the one attached to most food products, that summarizes the information.
So why do I not see this as good news. Because the trend is search engines are providing more and more content without sending searchers to websites. So we have to compete against the Search Engines. We have to compete against Social Networks. But while we compete, we also have to try to promote ourselves with the Search Engines and Social Networks but without crossing the spam line. At the same time, we have to try to figure some way to maintain a reasonable business model.
While we deal with all the problems of keeping our sites known and make money, we have to try to create better content. "Killer Apps / Content" has always been a deciding factor on success or failure in the tech world.
So what is my point?
I am just whining here. Things aren't supposed to be easy. I've been around long enough to know that.
