What actor normally played Addams' Family Thing?

Thing was usually played by the right hand of Ted Cassidy who also played Lurch. Sometimes he would use his left hand. When Lurch had to be on camera at the same time as Thing, associate producer Jack Voglin lent his hand. A third actor also played Thing on occasion, but his identity is not known.

Addams family was only on from 1964 until 1966 for 64 episodes. It was based on a New Yorker cartoon by Charles Addams. The show developed many things that the Cartoon had left undeveloped. Many characters had never been named. Originally, Lurch was to be the main character and was to played by John Aston. Neither Aston nor producer Levi thought that would work and in a following meeting John Aston was offered the role of Gomez who was the last character that Charles Addams named for the show. He first was going to call the Gomez character Repelli.
