Article on Toxic Friends
I just read an article, promoting a book, on Toxic Friends.
What gets me is these people who think their generation is different. From the article: My grandmother didn’t need a book like this,” Shapiro tells us. "Her family didn’t live three thousand miles away. Today, what women look for in female friendships is what they would look for in a relationship with their mother or sister."
Women have always had friends outside of family. Go back to the 1800's, ranches miles apart, they had their hoot and whatever you call it parties. "Yo, bitch, you square dance like a duck with hemorrhoids." Among those frenemies as they call them in the book, there have always been bitches. Yeah, it hurts when you think you are dancing like a beautiful swan and then someone tells you like it is, but that is life. Certainly it hurts when you are at a bad place and someone you think of as a friend really isn't in the mood to listen to your drama queen bullshit. Friends, toxic or otherwise, aren't family.
We are all on journey in life. We encounter all sorts of people. We don't worry whether someone is toxic. We behave friendly because that is what civilized people do. Talking about getting rid of a toxic friend in the article; what kind of slap the bitch talk is that? Whose the "toxic" friend when someone behaves like that.
In a days time, people say all sorts of shit. These days with facebook and twitter and whatever, people run their mouths/keyboards. Most of what is said is shit. I am just talking here. My words aren't gold. It is okay if you don't agree with me. But see, one problem people have is that it is easy to rationalize anger because of things said and half the time the person talking doesn't even know what they said. In some cases there has been a total miscommunication. It is easy to rationalize anger. People need to get the hell over themselves.
"Honey, dear, sweet heart, I didn't say you you square dance like a duck with hemorrhoids. I was talking to that sissy boy who turns out had ants up his pants. Course I was totally happy you pissed me off. It made it so much easier to steal your boyfriend."
