Georgia's Unemployment Rate hits 10.3% for July and was revised to 10.1% for June
Five Hundred Thousand
Georgians Unemployed
Commissioner Michael Thurmond said. “These jobless workers could comprise a mythical unemployment line that stretches from Dalton to Atlanta, through Macon and down to Valdosta.”
While Obama is talking NO NEW STIMULOUS PLAN these are real families with real lives who are hurting. Having a bunch of rich fucks in Washington and New York talking about how we can have a recovery with no new jobs should not be acceptable to Obama. Even if Obama does not increase spending to try to stimulate the economy he should at least have some economic plan to create real jobs that generate real incomes for real people.
Last month, 493,748 unemployed Georgians were looking for some way to make a living, an increase of 63.6 percent from July 2008. Of the 493,748 unemployed, 163,839, or 33.2 percent, received state unemployment insurance benefits, while about 140,000 received federally funded extended benefits. Do the math on how many are being left with no choice but become part of the underground economy to survive.
Obama is the first President with a Congress that was too fucking stupid to even put together a job program for teenagers this summer. Atlanta's response to the desperate youth and the rising crime rate is to put a day time curfew in place.
The July jobless rate was up 4.1 percentage points, from 6.2 percent at this time last year. Georgia’s unemployment rate remained above the national rate of 9.4 percent for the 21st consecutive month.
The number of payroll jobs in July dropped another 199,400, or 4.9 percent, from July 2008.
Health care and private educational services showed a combined increase of 10,400 jobs.
Local and state governmental education added 9,200 more jobs. And to pay for this, the state and counties are trying to maintain or increase property taxes on a population where many are trying to hold on to their properties by a string that is becoming more frayed each day. Meaning, these are jobs the state can't really afford and it is just a matter of time before the state and counties have to deal with reality and do something other than a 3 day furlough for state workers.
